Our Mission

We join God on his mission to save the world, which he is doing through Jesus Christ.  As disciples of Jesus in community with one another, fully alive in Christ, we teach, encourage, and inspire each other to grow in our intimacy with God, in order that we may be a light and a witness to the good news of Jesus Christ everywhere we go, inviting as many who will, to join us on mission with God.

Our Beliefs

We believe in God, the Father almighty,
      creator of heaven and earth.

We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
      He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      was crucified, died, and was buried;
      he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
      He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
      the one holy church,
      the communion of saints,
      the forgiveness of sins,
      the resurrection of the body,
      and the life everlasting.

Our Values

We value the glory of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit above all things and seek to live as sold out servants to the Triune God.

We value the gospel of Jesus Christ; which is the good news that through his sacrificial death and resurrection we are restored to our Creator God, and with us, all of nature. This restoration comes by God's grace and goodness, not our moral effort. We come to God just as we are with faith in Jesus. The Father warmly welcomes us into the family. He gives us the Holy Spirit to teach us and cause us to grow in love and service to Jesus, one another, and our neighbors.

We value holiness. Christian faith is not mere assent to cold dogma. Christian faith is staking one's whole being and fate in Jesus Christ. By faith in Christ we are brand new creatures who give our whole heart to God alone. Each member loves the other more than themselves. We forgive unconditionally. We spread peace, mercy, compassion, and healing in the world. We do right by our neighbors, family, friends, and ourselves.

We value the Holy Scriptures-the 39 Old Testment books, and the the 27 New Testament books-as the final revelatory authority of truth, faith, and practice until the revelation of Jesus.

We value the unity and the diversity of the whole Church There is only one global Church made up of followers of Jesus Christ; as there is one God, one Savior, one Spirit, one baptism, and one faith. This oneness exists seamlessly with a beautiful diversity of Christ-followers living in local Christian communities, expressing a diverse collage of spiritual gifts, natural capacities, life experiences, stories, physical qualities, nationalities, and languages, all working together in harmony for the sake of God's mission. Every Christ follower in the global Church is valueable and absolutely necessary to the mission. CBC is a local expression of the one diverse Church. As such we seek to partner with any fellow Christ followers on mission.

We value discipleship. Wherever you are in your journey, whether you follow Jesus or not, we believe you are not yet near enough to him. There is endless space at the table to join us as we draw near to Jesus by...

proclaiming the good news of Jesus

                                                                              sharing stories...

                                                                                practicing hospitality...

                                                                                  teaching and encouraging one another...

                                                                                    serving one another...

                                                                                      breaking bread together, and...

                                                                                        worshiping and praying together.

Come one and come all to Jesus. Find, and continue to find, salvation, hope, joy, wisdom, peace, life, and love in him.

We value community. It is important that we are fully engaged with each other as a church, but also just as engaged in the activities, concerns, and struggles of our neighborhoods, as well as the greater community of Brattleboro. We want to be a blessing in every place we find ourselves.

We value people. We value each person equally. Regardless of religion, sexuality, class, race, gender, and age, every one of us is made in the image of God, and are equally broken and in need of Christ, in need of one another, and in need of love. So "all are welcome" is not just a thing we say or a sign we hang up on a building; it is who we are. We truly welcome all to hear the word of eternal life and share in the fellowship of Christ with his people.
